U Avenue store steals $3,000 from victim’s bag, police arrest thief for grand theft

A thief stole about $3,000 from a victim’s bag in a beauty salon on U Avenue in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn. The 61st Precinct of the City Police Department is currently seeking the thief for grand larceny.

According to police, the theft occurred at about 6:34 p.m. on Tuesday, June 24, at a commercial location at 620 U Avenue in Sheepshead Bay, which provides beauty, hair and nail services. At that time, an unidentified suspect entered the store and quietly stole about $3,000 in cash from the handbag of a 37-year-old victim while no one was paying attention.

After the suspect succeeded, he fled the scene on foot and fled west along U Avenue. The police did not announce whether the victim was the owner of the store or a customer who was receiving service in the store at the time.
According to the photos released by the police, the thief was an African-American man with a thin build. When he committed the crime, he wore a black T-shirt with a picture of a person on the chest and black pants.
