Yonhap News Agency reported that Kim Gun-hee, the former first lady of South Korea, who was previously hospitalized for worsening chronic diseases, was discharged from Seoul Asan Hospital on the 27th. Her husband Yoon Seok-yeol personally pushed her wheelchair and accompanied her. The day after Kim Gun-hee was discharged from the hospital, Yoon Seok-yeol went directly to the main gate of the Seoul High Prosecutors’ Office to appear in public and be questioned on suspicion of sedition.
Yonhap News Agency pointed out that Kim Gun-hee was hospitalized for depression and other diseases. Kim Gun-hee’s lawyer Choi Ji-woo said that she will continue to receive treatment at home and will respond honestly if she receives a legitimate summons from the special investigation team in accordance with the law. Choi Ji-woo denied that he had requested a non-public summons from the special investigation team, saying that if the special investigation team issued a summons, he would negotiate on the specific time and place.
Yonhap News Agency pointed out that Kim Gun-hee’s health condition has deteriorated significantly after experiencing a series of judicial and public opinion storms such as martial law in December last year and Yoon Seok-yeol’s impeachment. She has been living in a private residence in Seocho District, Seoul since she moved out of the Yongsan official residence on April 11. Her last public appearance was on June 3, the day of the presidential election. Kim Gun-hee was admitted to Asan Hospital on June 16 due to health problems.
A person related to the special investigation team responded to the media on the 27th regarding the summons of Kim Gun-hee, saying that the relevant procedures will be carried out in accordance with the law. When asked whether he would accept the request for a private summons, the person reiterated that “it will be carried out in accordance with the law and principles.” However, public opinion generally believes that even if Kim Gun-hee’s side requests a private summons, the special investigation team will not accept it.
