China will solemnly commemorate the 80th anniversary of the victory of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression this year. Amidst this sensitive period, Japanese media reported that a Japanese mother and child were attacked in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, on July 31st. The mother was injured in the incident, but her condition is not life-threatening.
The Nikkei reported that the information was leaked by relevant Chinese and Japanese sources, and the details of the incident, the attacker’s current situation, and his motive are currently unknown.
In recent years, there have been several attacks on Japanese schools in China. In June of last year, a Chinese man attacked a school bus in Suzhou with a knife, injuring a Japanese mother and child. A Chinese woman who tried to stop the attacker was stabbed and later died in hospital.
The aforementioned Japanese media report stated that China is marking this year as a significant milestone in the 80th anniversary of the victory of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression. A Chinese film, “Unit 731,” depicting the Kwantung Army’s Epidemic Prevention and Water Supply Department (Unit 731), was originally scheduled to be released on July 31st. However, the release date has not yet been confirmed and may have been postponed.
It is worth noting that recently, two Chinese men were suddenly beaten with iron pipes by four men on the streets of Chiyoda District, Tokyo and were seriously injured. In response to this, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said on July 31 that he had noticed the relevant reports and pointed out that the Chinese Embassy in Japan immediately expressed its concerns to the Japanese side and is further verifying the situation. China urges the Japanese side to take effective measures to protect the safety of Chinese citizens.
