The Cambodian Ministry of Defense issued a statement on the 25th, strongly condemning the Thai army for launching attacks at 7 locations on the border between the two countries since early morning, and using internationally banned cluster bombs in Cambodia, which seriously violated international humanitarian law and the laws of war.
Cambodia-China Times reported that General Maly Socheata, Deputy Secretary of State and Spokesperson of the Cambodian Ministry of Defense, said at a press conference that the Thai army launched intensive attacks on many places in Preah Vihear Province and Oddar Meanchey Province since 3:20 am, targeting religious sites, nature reserves and residential areas.
Maly listed the time and location of the 7 attacks in detail, and accused the Thai army of throwing cluster bombs in the “Skull Mountain” area and Dechong Village, Junksan County, Preah Vihear Province, and attempted to seize Ta Krabei Temple at 8 am, but was eventually decisively repelled by the Cambodian army.
She said that the Thai army launched indiscriminate attacks with cluster bombs, which seriously violated the “Cluster Munitions Convention” and international war norms, and posed a serious threat to Cambodia’s national sovereignty and people’s safety. She denounced: “The Thai army’s move is a naked act of aggression, which not only endangers Cambodian civilians and the ecological environment, but also exposes its blatant contempt for international law and basic humanitarian principles.”
General Mali emphasized that despite the Thai side’s continuous attempts to break through the defense line, the Cambodian army still stood firm and responded decisively, successfully thwarting the Thai army’s attempt to seize the Ta Kra Be Temple and firmly safeguarding national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
According to the Khmer Times, Thai soldiers launched a fierce attack on Ta Moan Thom Temple by 11 a.m., using heavy artillery and infantry, but the Cambodian army resisted stubbornly and fought back fiercely.
