Yvette Clarke, a Democratic congresswoman from New York, said that her district needs more immigrants for the purpose of “redrawing districts.” The Daily Mail reported on the 22nd that Clarke’s conversation at an online meeting in January 2024 has recently reappeared.
At that time, Clarke said, “I am a member of the Brooklyn district of New York City, and the immigrant community in the district can absorb a large number of immigrants.” “What I want to say is that my district needs more people for redrawing, and immigrants can obviously join.”
Clarke’s opponent said that her remarks showed that she wanted to move more people who would vote for her into her district.
In March of this year, Clarke’s conversation was brought up at a meeting of the Department of Homeland Security to discuss former President Biden’s border security policy. Reli Crane, a Republican congressman from Arizona who played the conversation, said, “Clark’s conversation briefly illustrates Biden’s plan to use illegal immigrants to gain political influence.”
When Clarke made that statement, the New York State Democratic Party was passing a bill to redraw congressional districts, but New York City’s districts were not redrawn.
Despite this, the conversation still triggered a backlash from conservatives, with many critics on the Internet accusing her of “only wanting to bring in votes” to benefit herself. For example, “You dare to speak out what you only dared to hope for silently before?” “Bringing in votes, manipulating electoral districts, and calling it equality.”
Another person commented, “This is not called representing public opinion, but manipulating the population for the continuation of political life. Every American should be outraged.”
Another person said, “She publicly admitted to bringing in votes just to grab power. Does she really think this will not be leaked? Have the Democrats really become so shameless? This is not democracy, but a blatant large-scale election fraud. It’s so embarrassing.”
Another person commented, “They have always played this kind of trick. If they can’t win with policies, they will just cheat directly.”
Under Trump’s banner of cracking down on illegal immigrants, 133 people were arrested in Buffalo, Syracuse and other places in upstate New York in April. The White House’s goal is to arrest 3,000 people every day across the country.
