An accident occurred in Beitun District, Taichung City yesterday evening (19th) where a person was crushed to death in a mechanical parking space. A father parked his 1-year-old son in a mechanical parking space and got out of the car to take items from the car. The detailed cause and responsibility of the accident still need to be further clarified by the police and prosecutors.
Taichung City Police Fifth Precinct received a report from 119 at around 6 pm yesterday evening that a child was injured in a basement mechanical parking space in Section 3, Beiping Road, Beitun District, and immediately dispatched personnel to assist.
It was learned that when a boy (113) and his parents were taking items from the mechanical parking space, the mechanical parking space was suspected to be activated by other uninformed car owners, resulting in the boy’s head being crushed.
The boy was sent to the hospital by ambulance for treatment, but he still died of his injuries. The police have reported the accident to the prosecutor for further investigation. The neighbor who accidentally touched the start button of the underground parking space is suspected of manslaughter and will be further investigated by the prosecutor.
