A tourist boat capsized in a sudden thunderstorm on Saturday afternoon, killing 34 people and leaving seven missing, according to Vietnamese state media.
The Wonder Sea was carrying 48 passengers and five crew members and was touring the popular tourist destination of Ha Long Bay, according to the Associated Press.
Rescuers rescued 12 victims and found 34 bodies near the capsizing site, according to Vietnam Express. Seven people are still missing.
The boat capsized due to strong winds, the newspaper said. Among the survivors was a 14-year-old boy who was rescued after being trapped in the capsized boat for four hours.
Most of the passengers were tourists from Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, including about 20 children, the newspaper said.
A tropical storm is also moving toward the region. The national weather forecaster said Storm Wipha is expected to hit northern Vietnam, including the coast of Ha Long Bay, next week.
