The scandal of the National Taiwan Normal University women’s football team “drawing blood for credits” has caused public outrage! This afternoon (19th), the National Taiwan Normal University held a press conference. The professor Zhou Taiying, who had been missing for many days, finally appeared and bowed to apologize with the president Wu Zhengji and others. The victim, Jian Qisheng, a student of the National Taiwan Normal University women’s football team, said that since the coach and the school have apologized, he will no longer accept any interviews from the news media or recordings of political commentary programs. The Humanistic Education Foundation pointed out that the “inter-departmental task force” promised by the Ministry of Education is extremely important, because the National Taiwan Normal University has no qualifications and no ability to investigate on its own.
In response to the press conference held by National Taiwan Normal University this afternoon (19th), Professor Zhou Taiying, who had been missing for many days in the “blood-drawing for credits” case, finally appeared to apologize. Jian Qisheng, a student of the National Taiwan Normal University women’s football team, said through the Humanistic Education Foundation that since coach Zhou Taiying and the school have apologized, they will no longer accept any interviews from the news media or recordings of political commentary programs, and explained: “My goal has been achieved, and I have obtained what I want. The next thing is left to everyone. I will only accept in-depth interviews, school speeches or charity activities, etc.”
The Humanistic Education Foundation stated that this was the most direct and clear apology to the players and the public by the National Taiwan Normal University and coach Zhou Taiying, project executive professor Chen Zhongqing and others. They directly said “We did it wrong”! But is such an apology enough? Does it really show deep reflection and review? Still skeptical about this.
The Humanistic Education Foundation pointed out that the National Taiwan Normal University has not yet explained why the matter has been escalating since November last year, and even left the students desperate! The students even felt that it was not until they went to the Ministry of Education for coordination that they finally met an adult who “could speak with confidence.” In this case, even if the press conference today said that a “Research Center for Subject Protection” would be established and a hotline would be set up for victimized students to complain, would the students believe it? If the school is seen as standing on the side of the perpetrators, how could the students ask you for help?
At the same time, NTNU should not think that it can rebuild its reputation by setting up a research center or a hotline; it must first restore its reputation before it is qualified to talk about a protection center. Therefore, the Humanistic Education Foundation still believes that the “inter-departmental task force” promised by the Ministry of Education is extremely important, and pointed out that this group must include the Ministry of Education, the National Science Council, and even the Ministry of Health and Welfare, because NTNU has no qualifications and no ability to investigate on its own. Finally, it was emphasized that since October last year, the competent authorities have only seen NTNU’s reports, rather than taking the initiative to check, which has made the situation worse.
