A shocking sexual assault case was exposed at a Japanese university. A 46-year-old associate professor was accused of taking advantage of his position to sexually assault a woman in her 20s on campus. The victim later reported the incident to the police. The associate professor denied the accusation after being arrested. The school confirmed that a faculty member had been arrested and said that it was deeply regretful of the incident and would fully cooperate with the police investigation.
The defendant has been working at the university since 2008
Japanese media reported in July this year that the 46-year-old man involved in the case, Hiroki Takano, lived in Fukiage Town, Gifu City, and had been working at the Faculty of Engineering at Gifu University since 2008. Before his arrest, he was engaged in research on topics such as energy management in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Information Engineering, and served as an associate professor.
Denied the crime after being arrested
Takano was accused of taking advantage of his position in January 2025 to sexually assault a woman in her 20s on campus. The victim reported the case in May of the same year. Takano was later arrested on suspicion of “not consenting to sexual intercourse” and denied the accusation during the investigation.
The university confirmed that the faculty member was arrested
Gifu University later responded to media inquiries and said that it deeply regretted the incident. The school will fully cooperate with the police investigation and will immediately follow up strictly after confirming the incident.
