A Chinese couple in Old Brookville, Long Island, disappeared mysteriously on March 30, and the investigation of the case has not made any progress for more than three months. Their attorney revealed that the couple’s two sons, who originally lived alone in a mansion on Long Island, have recently returned to China to reunite with other family members.
John Carman, the attorney representing the family, said on the 15th that the Fan family’s 20-year-old eldest son Yiwei Fan and his 12-year-old brother had recently left the United States and returned to China.
The missing couple are Peishuan Fan, 48, and JuanJuan Zwang, 44. They were last seen in their home in Old Brookville on March 30 and were reported missing the next day. The case has since been jointly investigated by the Nassau County Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the investigation is still ongoing.
Carmen revealed that Fan Peixuan had run a business near Shanghai before immigrating to the United States and had been detained by Chinese authorities for nearly two months, but it is not clear whether the case was a civil or criminal case.
It is understood that the Fan family purchased the approximately 6,000-square-foot single-family mansion for 3.8 million yuan in cash at the end of 2023. The two children have been living alone there since their parents disappeared, with occasional visits from relatives and friends and relying on delivery for meals. Neighbors pointed out that there are still vehicles entering and leaving the house recently, but the lawn has not been mowed for a long time and the house is slightly deserted.
The 12-year-old brother just graduated from Glen Head Elementary School a few days ago, and a congratulatory sign for graduation can still be seen on the lawn in front of the door. Carmen said it is not yet certain whether the brothers’ return to China this time is a permanent departure.
Property records show that only the eldest son Fan Yiwei and his mother Zhuang Juanjuan are listed on the deed of the house, and Fan Peixuan is not listed. According to the lawyer, Fan Yiwei has access to some financial accounts to support daily life and family expenses, but it is unknown whether the funds can continue to support.
So far, the circumstances of the disappearance are still unclear. The police call on those who know the situation to provide clues to help clarify the truth of this missing Chinese family incident.
