
Superintendent Chan Jian-yu appeared in court this morning (14) to defend himself after being found guilty of indecent assault in a bar and assault of a female subordinate at a police station. Chan said he had lived in the United States for 11 years and believed that tapping the knee and putting the arm around were the more common physical contact between friends. Superintendent Chan Jian-yu appeared in court to defend himself, saying he was married and immigrated to the United States at the age of 10. He studied criminal justice in college and later returned to Hong Kong to join the police force.
Invitation X wants to state that he will do his best to assist her

Touching your face is an act of goodwill
On the incident of touching X’s face, Chan said that the atmosphere was relaxed and touching his face was just an act of playing with X in good faith. He had no intention of attacking X. Regarding X’s allegation that he touched his wrist to his heel, Chan said he did not remember this happening, but even if the incident had happened, he believed it should have been an accident and the force of the touch should have been very small. He had no intention of attacking X.
Believe that X consented to the act

The prosecution cross-examined Chan and said that during the main question, Chan had pointed out that a management had asked Chan to deal with the incident because they had said they were aware of X’s pressure. Chan agreed and explained that he had also mentioned the matter to X. The prosecution asked Chan if he believed that arm-hugging and thigh slapping were physical contact between friends, and Chan explained that he did not believe that in the United States it was indeed normal physical contact between friends.
There were also several male policemen on the shoulders that night
The prosecution questioned why Chan did not make movements such as patting the arm to them as an encouragement when there were other colleagues at the bar that day. Chan explained that in addition to X, he had also hit the shoulders of several male police officers that night, but the female colleague was unsure. The prosecution continued that Chan had noted in a videotaped meeting that he had never had physical contact with other female colleagues, which he explained was not in normal situations, but could not be certain in social situations.
The prosecution said the other male officers did not mention physical contact with Chan
The prosecution further said the three male police officers did not mention that Chan had had physical contact with them when they testified. Chan did not mention the matter for the first time until the cross-examination stage.
Emphasize that movement is encouraged in good faith
On cross-examination by the prosecution, Chan agreed that he was not too knowledgeable about X’s character and values, so at the time he did not consider whether X could tolerate physical contact between the two American friends. The prosecution questioned that Chan believed she accepted physical contact only when the two parties had communicated messages and had called the other “EE”. Chan explained that this was not the main reason because he wanted to relay the support of management from X.
Denies disregarding X’s feelings
The prosecution pointed out on the video of the recent gathering between the two parties that the two did not talk about work in the video. Is Chan beating X also showing support? Refers to X as the only person on the scene who has a special message to convey
The prosecution said that Chan did not actually have physical contact with other male colleagues that night, which Chan said he disagreed with, but agreed was selective physical contact with X because she was the only person present with a special message that management was concerned and to relay.
