On July 14, the Health Commission of Huixian City, Henan Province, issued a report on the situation of Huixian People’s Hospital distributing expired drugs to patients:
On July 13, a patient’s family reported that Huixian People’s Hospital issued expired drugs to patients, which aroused doubts. Huixian Health Commission attached great importance to it and immediately set up an investigation team to conduct a comprehensive investigation.
After investigation, it was found that there were loopholes in the drug management of the hospital’s interventional department. The relevant staff did not strictly implement the hospital’s medication system and distributed a bottle of expired drugs to the patient’s family. When the staff on duty in the CT room checked the drugs, they found that the drugs were expired. After explaining the situation to the family, they promptly replaced the qualified drugs for the patient to use. At present, the head nurse of the interventional department of the hospital and the nurse who manages drugs have been suspended, and the hospital has been filed for punishment.
We will learn lessons deeply, draw inferences from one instance, and carry out special rectification actions on drug and consumables management in all medical institutions in the city’s health system to fully protect the legitimate rights and interests and physical and mental health of patients.
