New York City police confirmed that a 37-year-old Chinese man died after being rescued from the waters of the “Fountain of the Planets” in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, Queens, on the morning of July 11. The case is still under investigation.
At 9:59 a.m. on the 11th, the police received a call that someone was suspected of falling into the fountain in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park. New York City Fire Department divers rushed to the scene and rescued the man from the water. He was then sent to New York Presbyterian Queens Hospital by paramedics, but was eventually pronounced dead.
The identity of the deceased has been confirmed to be Chinese, and no criminal suspect has been arrested. The police initially judged that the incident may involve an emotionally out-of-control person entering the water, and it is not considered a criminal case.
The fountain is located close to Flushing and Corona. From morning to night, a large number of residents exercise or walk nearby. It is regrettable to hear that such a thing happened. Some people also questioned that the water in the fountain was not deep, and if the man had shouted for help, someone nearby would definitely have heard him.
