On the 12th, President Trump confronted comedian Rosie O’Donnell on social media, threatening to revoke her U.S. citizenship, escalating the nearly 20-year war of words between the two sides.
According to NBC News, Trump named Rosie O’Donnell in his own “Truth Social”: “Rosie O’Donnell is no good to our great country. I am seriously considering depriving her of her citizenship. She is a threat to humanity. If Ireland is willing to take her in, let her stay in that beautiful country.”
O’Donnell then confronted Trump directly through Instagram: “Hey, Mr. Donnell, are you panicking again? 18 years have passed, and I am still living in your brain that is about to collapse for free.” She emphasized: “You say I am a threat to humanity? It is precisely because I am everything you are afraid of. I am a noisy woman, a queer mother, and an American who dares to speak the truth. I left long before you destroyed this country.”
O’Donnell also deliberately shared a photo of Trump and the “sex demon” tycoon Jeffrey Epstein who committed suicide in prison. The meaning is self-evident.
According to the Constitution’s “14th Amendment”, anyone born on US territory automatically obtains citizenship. Since O’Donnell was born in New York State, Trump has no power to unilaterally revoke her citizenship.
Before Trump took office at the end of January this year, O’Donnell moved to Ireland and emphasized that “we will not consider returning until the United States can truly guarantee equal rights for all citizens.” He also revealed that he had applied for Irish citizenship.
In March this year, when Irish Prime Minister Michael Martin visited the White House, Trump deliberately asked Martin: “Why did you let Rosie O’Donnell move to Ireland? I think she will lower your happiness index.”
The feud between Trump and O’Donnell began in 2006. O’Donnell publicly condemned Trump’s controversial decision on the beauty pageant on the show. The two sides have been feuding since then. In 2015, Trump ran for president for the first time. In the primary debate, he was asked whether he had used malicious adjectives such as “fat pigs”, “slobs” and “disgusting animals”. Trump directly admitted: “I’m talking about Rosie O’Donnell.”
