Maxwell Alejandro Frost, a Democratic congressman from Florida, said on the 18th that the solution to the problem of illegal immigration is to fully open up citizenship to everyone. Frost, born in 1997, won the 2022 Florida 10th District Congressional election and became the first Gen Z congressman in American history.

Fox News analyzed on the 19th that Frost’s proposition caused controversy, and some conservative media pointed out that fully opening up naturalization is equivalent to making American nationality “completely meaningless.”

Frost held a press conference with several immigrant rights advocacy groups on the 18th, announcing that he would promote the “Stop Unlawful Detention and End Mistreatment Act” (SUDEM Act) in the House of Representatives. The bill requires agencies or cooperative agencies under the jurisdiction of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to be open and transparent about the immigration detention process and must also be responsible for their actions.

Frost said at the press conference that he would fight hard and hold President Trump, the Trump administration and the Florida government accountable. “They used the name of the immigration system and taxpayers’ money to launch kidnapping plans and send people halfway across the world through human trafficking.”

Frost said that being an undocumented immigrant in the United States is not a crime, and the best solution to reduce illegal immigration is to make illegality legal.

He said that the American community is made up of immigrants and people have various immigration identities. “I want to say to my Republican congressional colleagues that I share your views and do not want undocumented immigrants in our country, so let us register all of them and provide a fast track to naturalization. This is how we solve the problem.”

Brianna Lyman, a reporter for the conservative media “The Federalist”, wrote on the social media X on the 18th that if nationality is downgraded to just a piece of paper issued by the government, it is completely meaningless.

White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller also wrote on the X platform that if the Democrats gain full power in Washington, they will quickly resettle people from poor and developing countries around the world into communities across the United States, “and grant them all the rights and privileges of American citizens.”
