Buying a car becomes renting a car, 3 more victims complain about Liu Danny

It has been reported three times that three different car buyers bought cars from Chinese car broker Danny Lew, but ended up renting them, and each of them was defrauded of tens of thousands of yuan. On the afternoon of July 3, three more car buyers walked into the Asian American Association of Brooklyn (AACA) to complain about Danny Lew over car purchase disputes and seek help from the association. Two police officers from the New York Police Department went to the scene to collect evidence and report the case for the victims. The two police officers said that they expect to handle it as a criminal case and submit it to the prosecutor’s office.
Mr. Zhang rented a car from Danny Lew four or five years ago, and everything went well. In November 2024, Mr. Zhang decided to buy a brand new Toyota Sienna and found Danny Lew again. Mr. Zhang gave Danny Lew 30,000 yuan in cash and a check for 30,000 yuan, and got the car without signing any contract. Mr. Zhang asked to sign a contract, but Danny Lew kept shirking his responsibilities. Earlier this year, Mr. Zhang found that there was a car loan on his credit record, so he questioned Danny Lew, who said that his assistant had made a mistake. Mr. Zhang, who became suspicious, later found that the car purchase turned into a rental, and 60,000 yuan was wasted, so he called the police.
Mr. Wu also bought a Toyota Sienna from Danny Liu in 2023. At that time, he paid the full amount of the car through four cash payments, but later received a repayment notice from the bank and found that Danny Liu had only paid him more than 10,000 yuan for the car, and the rest was in installments. Now he has to pay more than 3,000 yuan in car loans every month. But he can no longer contact Danny Liu.
Mr. Yang bought a car worth more than 60,000 yuan from Danny Liu, and Danny Liu paid the full amount for him. However, on March 21 this year, when Mr. Yang went to the Vehicle Administration to renew the vehicle registration, he was told that the car was not his. Mr. Yang later discovered that Danny Liu had borrowed money from the bank in the name of the car, which caused Mr. Yang to get into trouble.
On July 3, the three victims and another victim, Mr. Chen, walked into the office of the Asian General Association for help. Chen Shanzhuang, president of the Asian Association, said that the association had received several other calls complaining about Danny Liu.
After learning about the case, two police officers from Staten Island helped the three victims report the case to the police. Officer Vega said that after receiving clues from the Asian Association, they found that Danny Liu had been involved in a civil case in Staten Island in the past regarding a car purchase dispute. Although the case has been closed, the police believe that further investigation is necessary.
Officer Vega said that such cases of buying a car and then renting a car are usually civil cases, and the police will not intervene. However, given that Danny Liu has more than ten victims, it is no longer a simple civil case and must be handled as a criminal case.
State Representative Zheng Yongjia also rushed to the scene to understand the situation. He encouraged more victims to come forward and hoped that the police would seek justice for the victims.
