Hun Sen sent a stern signal to Thaksin, cutting off contact with Thaksin’s brother, calling him a traitor, and preparing to expose and expose Thaksin, canceling his gratitude for his help during exile if he remained silent on the issue of the institution.

Today (June 26, 2025), Cambodia’s Phnom Penh Post reported that Cambodian Senate Chairman Hun Sen sent a message directly to former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, whom he once loved and called his “sworn brother”, accusing Thaksin of “betrayal” and warning and threatening that if necessary, he will expose actions that may be considered treason, including Thaksin’s remarks on the monarchy, but will wait and see Bangkok’s position first.

“I am not the kind of person who betrays others first, but when I was betrayed, I felt the need to expose what the Thaksin family did, which was a betrayal of their own country,” Hun Sen said on June 26 while visiting displaced Cambodian refugees in the Thai-Cambodian border area in Preah Vihear province.

“This is a warning. You should teach your children what their father has done.”

Hun Sen threatened to give a detailed introduction to Thai-Cambodian relations on Friday, June 27, to help the people of the two countries, who he believes are eager for peace, to have a deeper understanding of the nature of the relationship between the two countries.

“I never thought that the family I helped would become prime minister and cause such big trouble,” Hun Sen said. “Sometimes they claim to be powerful, and sometimes they are not.”

When talking about Patongdan Shinawatra, the current Thai prime minister and Thaksin’s daughter, Hun Sen said, “I will talk about this tomorrow.”

Hun Sen bluntly criticized Thaksin: “If you are still so arrogant, I will reveal everything you said, including what you said to the king… educate your children well. You have a son who is the prime minister, and I also have a son who is the prime minister. But please don’t think that I am a bully. I don’t owe Thailand anything.”

Hun Sen said that the Thaksin family “owed me a favor”, but he never wanted to repay it. What he wanted was “an equal and non-interference relationship.”

It is well known that the Hun Sen family has a close relationship with the Shinawatra family. Thaksin and Yingluck both lived in Hun Sen’s home during their political exile.

But now Hun Sen is uncertain about Thailand’s power structure: “Now, we don’t know who we should negotiate with – the military? Political parties? Backbenchers? Or the prime minister? We don’t know who holds the real power.”

Hun Sen expressed the hope that the new Thai prime minister would seriously address the relationship between the two countries.

“Cambodia does not see Thailand as an enemy. We only see a few groups with radical ideas – some in the military and some in politics.”

Finally, Hun Sen reiterated that “whether Thailand is yellow, red or any group, Cambodia is ready to cooperate with all parties.”
