[1] Students: I feel like I am soaked in hot sweat when I sleep at night
Under the hot and sunny weather, many college students in Northeast universities posted that the school did not install air conditioners or fans. Some people got heatstroke during the final exams. After the power was cut off in the dormitory at night, they could not sleep because of the heat. Some people slept on the floor in the playground, some people stayed in the stairwell all night to cool off, and some people went to hotels, homestays or bath centers near the school to stay overnight in the air-conditioned room.
On June 26, Jiupai News contacted a southerner named Dong (a pseudonym) who is studying in Shenyang. He said that the highest temperature in Shenyang today was 35℃, and there was basically no air conditioner installed in the whole school. Turning on the fan in the high temperature had no effect, and he was sweating profusely just sitting.
He also said that when he went to bed at night, he felt that he was soaked in hot sweat and couldn’t sleep at all, but he couldn’t take a shower or a shower because the school bathroom was not open all day, but only between 8 am and 10:15 pm.
“Shenyang was also very hot at this time last year, and I really felt much more uncomfortable than when I was in the south.” He said.
Lin (a pseudonym) from Northeast Forestry University told Jiupai News that the highest temperature in Harbin recently was 36 degrees Celsius, and there were many days above 30 degrees Celsius. The thermal insulation design of buildings in the Northeast region is very good. The indoor temperature is particularly hot in high temperature weather, but there are no air conditioners or electric fans in the library, cafeteria, and dormitory.
“Many boys have been sleeping on the floor these days. I bought a fan, but I was woken up three times in the middle of the night by the heat. Many students stayed in hotels around the school to enjoy air conditioning, but the hotels were overcrowded and fully booked,” she said.
【2】School: The staff office is also very hot, and we understand the students’ feelings
In response to feedback from students from many universities in Northeast China, Jiupai News contacted the logistics support departments of relevant universities as a parent. The staff members all said that the staff office was also very hot and they understood the students’ feelings, but the school currently had no plans to install air conditioners.
A staff member from the Apartment Service Department of Harbin Engineering University told Jiupai News that there are indeed students sleeping on the floor in the school playground, but there has been no response to the installation of air conditioners yet, and we still need to wait for the school’s specific notification.
“Our office is also in the student dormitory, and it is also very hot. We understand the students and we also want to solve this problem for the students, but this is not something that we can decide as a department,” he said.
The above staff member said that the school attaches great importance to this matter. Students can apply to the administrator of the apartment to extend the power supply, use small electric fans or rechargeable fans to cool down, and open the doors and windows for ventilation when sleeping at night. I will record the above situation and the students’ demands, and communicate with the leaders later to see if they can be equipped with Huoxiang Zhengqi water, anti-heat stickers and other anti-heat medicines for students, but the specific arrangements need to wait for the school leaders to discuss and decide.
The operator of the Jilin University campus service hotline also told Jiupai News that her office was also very hot, but she has not received any notice from the school about installing air conditioners.
When asked whether students can stay outside, she said that under normal circumstances, the dormitory aunt will check the students when they are not in the dormitory. If you want to stay outside because of the high temperature, you need to consult the counselors of each college to see if you can get permission and understand the latest notice of the school.
A staff member of the Logistics Department of Northeast Normal University told Jiupai News: “We also know that the weather has been very hot these two days, and our building is also very hot. We are also trying to find a solution for the students, but the specific implementation depends on the management of each apartment building.” She also said that whether to install air conditioners and fans depends on the school’s arrangements. At present, in response to the high temperature, the dormitory closing time and bathroom opening time of student apartments have been extended. The school has also opened a relatively cool study room for students to cool off. According to the meteorological department, most parts of Northeast China will usher in thunderstorms starting tomorrow. After more rainfall, the maximum temperature will drop to around 30℃, and the high temperature will stop.
