New York State has experienced a rare high temperature in nearly 150 years. Governor Hochu announced on Sunday (Sunday) that 32 counties in the state have entered a heat wave emergency.

Hochu said, “We are heartbroken for the lives and losses that were unfortunately lost in the storm last night. The state government has been in contact with local elected officials to provide support. State emergency personnel are already on the ground to provide resources and support as we work to recover from this severe weather and quickly restore power. I urge all New Yorkers to pay attention to the weather and take precautions to stay alert and safe, as extreme heat and severe weather are expected to continue to affect the entire state in the next few days.”

It is reported that all five boroughs, including New York City, are within the scope of the heat wave emergency warning. The state will experience a multi-day heat wave starting on the 22nd, with high temperatures and humidity, causing the body temperature to reach 90 to 100 degrees Fahrenheit or even higher, and the heat wave will continue until the 25th (Wednesday). The temperature in New York City will rise to 100 degrees Fahrenheit on the 23rd (Monday) and 102 degrees Fahrenheit on the 24th (Tuesday), which may break the city’s two-day record for the hottest temperature in 137 years.

Thunderstorms hit northern, central, southern and capital areas of New York early on the 22nd, causing downed trees and power lines, structural damage and multiple power outages. Rainfall rates of up to two inches per hour will continue, which may result in two to four inches of water accumulation in total. The heaviest rain may continue to fall in central and southern New York, which have already received heavy rain. Flash floods may spread to the southern region and the mid-Hudson region, especially from Broome County to Ulster/Sullivan County. There are a large number of power outages from the northern region to the southern region.

The state Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Services has now activated the State Emergency Operations Center to track storms and damage in enhanced monitoring mode, and work closely with local emergency managers and governments to support requests and provide assistance as required. The State Office of Fire and Control has activated the Fire Operations Center, which can deploy teams at any time to provide support, and the Swift Water Rescue Team has also made relevant emergency deployments. New York residents can register for text weather and emergency alerts by texting their county or district name to 333111.

At the same time, as the Democratic primary election day (24th) approaches, Hochu also signed a new law this weekend, allowing polling stations to provide water and food to voters waiting in line. It is reported that the previous law prohibited polling stations from providing food and water to voters under any circumstances.
