A fatal car accident occurred at around 2 pm today (21st) in front of Exit 3 of Zhongxiao Xinsheng Station of Taipei MRT! Multiple vehicles collided at the scene, resulting in 2 motorcyclists, 1 dead and 1 injured. The detailed cause of the accident is yet to be clarified. According to police investigation, the large crane driven by a man surnamed Lai (77 years old) was driving along the outermost lane from south to north on Xinsheng South Road Section 1. It is suspected that it collided with 3 motorcyclists in a blind spot, causing the riders to fall to the ground one after another. Among them, the 18-year-old female rider surnamed Cai was run over and died on the spot.
Preliminary understanding shows that the deceased is an 18-year-old female motorcycle rider. At the time of the accident, due to serious injuries such as exposed organs, she was obviously dead before the police and firefighters arrived; another male rider in his 60s had fractures in both hands and has been sent to Mackay Memorial Hospital.
It is reported that after the accident, Lai turned right to Zhongxiao East Road Section 3, suspected of hit-and-run behavior, but the crane slowly stopped after being stopped by enthusiastic citizens and scolded “Get off! You killed someone!” Police investigation revealed that the four drivers had normal vehicle registrations and were not driving under the influence of alcohol. The crane had applied for a pass, but the detailed reasons are still to be clarified.
