Before the “Big, Big Bill” came up for a vote, a 60-year-old man from Dayton, Ohio, upset about the impending cuts to his Medicaid benefits, called Republican Ohio Congressman Jim Jordan’s Washington, D.C., office in late June and left a message for 90 minutes, hurling profanities and threatening, “If you vote to cut my Medicaid, I’ll chop your head off.” NBC reported that a Republican congressional aide confirmed the man was arrested by the FBI this week and turned over to the FBI for prosecution.
According to the FBI indictment filed in the Ohio District Court on July 29, the arrested suspect is 60-year-old Jeffrey Dorsey. The indictment does not name the congressman who received the death threats, but Republican congressional aides indicate that Dorsey’s threats were directed at Jordan.
A verbatim transcript of the phone message released by the FBI shows that Dulce repeatedly expletives in the 90-second message, saying, “If you vote to cut my Medicaid, I’ll chop your head off,” and “If you dare touch my Medicaid, you’re dead.” Dulce also described Jordan in the message as “shameful,” “a man like a bag of shit,” and “I can’t stand you.”
The FBI stated that Dulce made a death threat to Jordan by phone on June 29th. Jordan’s congressional aide turned over the voicemail to the U.S. Capitol Police, and the FBI identified Dulce from the phone company.
FBI agents called Dulce’s phone number earlier this week and, through voice matching, confirmed that the person making the death threat was Dulce.
The Senate voted to pass the “Big, Great Act” on July 1st, followed by the House on July 3rd. The bill took effect on July 4th after President Trump signed it. Jordan and 217 other Republican House members voted in favor of the bill. Two Republican House members joined 212 Democrats in voting against the bill.
Dulce, who faces charges of threatening harm through interstate communications, is in FBI custody and is expected to attend a detention hearing on the 1st.
