Sarah Wintrip of Chelmsford, Essex, finally agreed to marry her boyfriend of seven years, Luke Wintrip, after proposing for the 43rd time. Their love story has garnered widespread attention and discussion.
According to the New York Post, Sarah, 38, and Luke, 36, began dating in 2018, fresh off a previous relationship. Sarah, a mother of three, had proposed six months into their relationship, during a romantic horseback riding trip in Jamaica. However, Sarah declined, stating, “While I loved him, I wasn’t ready for a major commitment.”
Undeterred by the rejection, Luke continued to propose in creative ways over the following years, including candlelit dinners in castles and restaurants, and even featuring musicians. His most lavish proposal was in Prague, where he transformed a dilapidated castle into a dreamscape, complete with champagne, chocolates, and luminaries. However, he still didn’t receive a “yes” response. In response to friends’ questions about whether he was being overly persistent, Luke replied, “I just wanted to prove how much I cared about her, and I wanted her children to grow up knowing this was the kind of love worth pursuing.” In 2023, Sarah finally agreed in Greenwich, London.
As a street performer played her favorite songs, Luke said to her, “This is the center of the world, and you are the center of my world. Will you marry me?” These words finally won Sarah’s heart, and the two were married on May 17, 2025.
Luke’s multiple proposal videos also went viral on TikTok, with many netizens moved by his unwavering love. Sarah admitted that she never regretted her decision to refuse, emphasizing that “everyone has their own time.” She also encouraged other women to have the courage to say “not yet,” believing that the right person will be willing to wait. She laughed and said, “I think he deserves a Guinness World Record. I’m really grateful for his persistence.”
