One-year-old Kaikai died tragically after suffering 42 injuries from 115 days of abuse by his nannies, sisters Liu Caixuan and Liu Ruolin. An intensive 10-day trial concluded at the Taipei District Court’s National Court bench. On May 13th of this year, Liu Caixuan was sentenced to life imprisonment with lifelong deprivation of civil rights, and Liu Ruolin was sentenced to 18 years in prison. Meanwhile, the previously unseen mother of Kaikai was arrested on charges of abusing, imprisoning her ex-boyfriend during his wedding, and even drugging him. Following the prosecution, the New Taipei District Court granted her bail of NT$30,000. However, Kaikai absconded after giving birth in 2022, prompting a warrant for her arrest issued by the New Taipei District Court in June of the same year. Police arrested her today in Shalu, Taichung, and transferred her to the New Taipei District Court for trial this evening.
Prosecutors and police discovered that after starting a new boyfriend in 2021, Qianqian’s biological mother, along with others, conspired to lock her ex-boyfriend’s new lover in their rented apartment and abused him for four hours, even feeding him drugs. The ex-boyfriend escaped and sought help, leading to his arrest. During the investigation, prosecutors requested a stay of custody because Qianqian’s biological mother was five months pregnant. The judge then granted her bail of NT$30,000.
After the prosecution filed the abuse charges, Qianqian’s biological mother disappeared after giving birth to Qianqian in Shulin District, New Taipei City, in February 2022. After repeated attempts to summon her, the New Taipei District Court issued a warrant for her arrest in June of the same year, and she was not apprehended until today. Because Qianqian’s biological mother disappeared while on bail after giving birth, Qianqian’s adoption process had to be restarted, and she was ultimately taken in and raised by her grandmother.
In June 2023, Qianqian’s grandmother expressed her intention to adopt the child to the New Taipei Social Welfare Center. In September of the same year, the Child Welfare Center referred her to a nanny named Liu for childcare. The grandmother then signed a childcare contract with Liu Caixuan. Unexpectedly, on December 24 of the same year, a tragic incident occurred and she was brutally abused to death by the nanny named Liu.
