An 86-year-old Chinese woman was found dead at her home in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, on the 21st. The police are still trying to determine the cause of death through forensic examination. On the 22nd, there was still a yellow cordon at the door of the deceased’s home, and there were police officers stationed at the door.
Police said that at about 1:20 p.m. on the 21st, someone called 911 to report that an old woman had a problem in her home on 63rd Street between 23rd and 24th Avenues, and hoped that the police would go to check. When the police arrived at the scene, they found the body of the old woman wrapped in a quilt. The police announced that the 86-year-old woman who died was Kim To.
According to reports, many police and emergency personnel came to the scene of the accident in the afternoon of the 21st, and they were busy in and out for several hours. On the 22nd, there were still police officers stationed at the door of the house where the accident occurred. The police said that the forensic doctor was trying to find out the cause of death to determine whether the Chinese woman died of natural causes or criminal behavior.
The New York Post quoted sources as saying that the old woman had a scarf wrapped around her neck. She suffered from stage 4 cancer and Alzheimer’s disease, and her death was not immediately suspected of being related to a crime. Investigators believe she had been dead for at least a week, but it could have been as long as three weeks.
The source added that the police called the police after a conflict in the apartment. The old woman’s 65-year-old daughter lived with her mother and changed the locks earlier this year. The old woman also had two daughters, aged 61 and 57, who did not live with the old woman. They wanted to visit the apartment, but were refused by the 65-year-old daughter, so one of them called the police.
The source said that when the police arrived at the scene, they also encountered violence from the 65-year-old daughter. She allegedly bit a police officer several times, then was handcuffed and sent to Marmor Hospital for evaluation. The daughter had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and schizophrenia, but had not been taking medication.
The old woman’s body has been transported away from the scene for an autopsy, and her official cause of death will be determined by the city’s medical examiner’s office.
