
A tragedy occurred in Incheon, South Korea. A 62-year-old man shot his son to death with a homemade gun when his son held a birthday party for him, and installed a homemade bomb in his residence, causing the police to conduct a large-scale evacuation.
On the 21st, the Incheon Yeonsu Police Station applied for an arrest warrant for A (62 years old) on suspicion of killing his son with a homemade gun. According to the police, the incident occurred at an apartment in Songdo International City, Yeonsu District, Incheon at around 9:30 pm on the 20th. At that time, A had a birthday and his son B (34 years old) prepared a party for him.
A and B, their couple, two grandchildren, and acquaintances of their daughter-in-law, a total of 6 people attended the birthday party. A left during the conversation and said he would go out for a while. Then, he came in with a homemade gun and fired 3 shots, 2 of which hit his son’s chest and 1 shot at the front door. According to the investigation, the gun was homemade by A and can fire hunting shotgun shells.
Daughter-in-law C and the children hid in the inner room and called the police, claiming that “father-in-law shot husband”. The police entered the house at around 10:43 that night, but A had already escaped in the elevator. Although B was sent to the hospital, he died.
At around 0:15 on the 21st, the police launched a pursuit with the fleeing A, intercepted A’s vehicle with a police car, and arrested him. 11 steel pipes and 3 shotgun shells were found in the co-pilot and trunk of the vehicle.
After being arrested, A confessed to the police: “A bomb was installed in my home in Seoul. It was set to explode at 12 noon on the 21st.” After hearing the news, the police urgently evacuated more than 100 residents of the apartment in Dobong District, Seoul where A lived, and dispatched explosive experts and police to search. A temporary explosive device was found in A’s home and it was dismantled at around 4 am. The police also found more than 80 bullets in his home.
A told the police that he committed the crime because of family discord. It is reported that A lived alone in his home in Dobong District after divorcing his wife D more than 20 years ago and currently has no job. The property is still under the name of his ex-wife and has been seized many times.
A claimed that he had been in conflict with his son since the divorce more than 20 years ago. A told the police that his son blamed me for the divorce between my wife and me and we often quarreled.
A may have had criminal intentions. It is reported that the police have learned that A has been studying the method of making guns through online videos for several months, and some accessories may have been purchased online.
