At about 10:30 pm yesterday (13th), gunshots were heard from a residential house in Zhongkengli, Nanhua District, Tainan City. A 60-year-old man surnamed Chen was shot in the back and fell to the ground. Unexpectedly, 10 minutes later, the police received another report of a car accident in Zuozhen where a 25-year-old driver was seriously injured and died. There were a large number of guns in the car. A brief comparison revealed that the two were actually father and son. After preliminary investigation, it was suspected that the father and son had an argument, and the son shot and drove away from the scene, but lost control and crashed into himself. Currently, the police are waiting for Chen’s father’s injuries to stabilize before further comparison of statements.
Tainan Xinhua Branch received a report of a car accident at about 22:33 yesterday (13th). The driver, Mr. Chen (born in 1989), drove his car from Zuozhen to Xinhua on Provincial Highway 20 to 22.2K on Provincial Highway 20 in Zuozhen District. He first lost control and collided with the opposite guardrail and Taipower’s electrical box, then slid to the front of a nearby residential house and collided with a roadside vehicle.
Chen lost his breath and heartbeat on the spot, and could not be tested for alcohol. He was sent to Xinhua Branch Hospital for emergency treatment, but was pronounced dead at around 23:35.

During the on-site investigation, the police found 4 suspected modified long guns and a batch of bullets left in the car. They have been sent for inspection. Whether it involves other criminal cases, the police have formed a special task force to investigate.

At the same time, they would take samples of gunpowder residue and test alcohol concentration to clarify Chen’s behavior and mental state at the time. At present, the police have set up a special case team to reconstruct the timeline of the whole incident from the quarrel at home, the gunshot to the death in the car accident. It does not rule out that Chen may be involved in other criminal cases, and the investigation is continuing to expand.
