Following Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian’s accusation that Israel had attempted an assassination, Al Jazeera reported on the 13th that according to Iranian officials, the Iranian Supreme National Security Council was attacked by an Israeli airstrike during a meeting in Tehran on June 15, and Pezeshkian was injured in the leg. The official said that the Israeli army also attempted to assassinate the heads of three government departments in order to bring down the Iranian government.
Al Jazeera quoted the official as saying that Israel will pay a price for this plot. It is reported that the airstrike took place shortly before noon on June 15. The meeting was attended by the heads of the executive, legislative and judicial departments of the government, as well as other senior officials.
Iranian media disclosed the details of the Israeli assassination. The semi-official Iranian Fars News Agency reported that the assassination took place during the 12-day conflict between Israel and Iran. The meeting was held on the ground floor of a government building in western Tehran. When the attack occurred, the entrance and exit of the building were attacked by six missiles to block the escape route and cut off air circulation.
After the explosion, the building lost power and officials managed to escape through pre-designated emergency exits. In addition to Pezerskian, several other officials also suffered leg injuries when leaving. Given the accuracy of the information Israel received before launching the attack, the Iranian government is investigating the possibility of infiltrators inside.
Earlier this month, Pezerskian said in an interview with Tucker Carlson, a conservative American media person, that Israel had tried to assassinate him during the conflict between Iran and Israel last month, but failed.
According to a recent report by the Financial Times, Pezerskian said in an interview: “Israel did try to assassinate and took corresponding actions, but Israel failed.”
Pezerskian said that the assassination took place during the 12-day war when he was attending a meeting to discuss the way forward. He hinted that Israeli forces learned his specific location through intelligence provided by spies. He said: “Israel tried to bomb the area where we were meeting.” However, he did not disclose the specific time of the attack or how close the attack was to him.
