On the 27th, the Oslo police of Norway announced that after several months of investigation, they had filed multiple charges against Marius Borg Høiby, the eldest son of the Crown Princess, including rape, sexual assault and bodily harm. The case allegedly involved “double-digit” victims.
The Associated Press reported that Høiby, 28, is the son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit and the stepson of Crown Prince Haakon. He has been under investigation since he was arrested several times in 2024 for alleged sexual assault and facing preliminary charges of bodily harm and criminal damage.
Andreas Kruszewski, a lawyer for the Oslo police, said that Høiby cooperated during the police interrogation and the interrogation process has now ended. He pointed out at the press conference that the cases involved in Hoyby include one sexual assault involving sexual acts, two sexual assaults without sexual acts, four sexual violence cases and two personal injury cases, and the evidence sources include text messages, witness testimonies and police searches.
“I can’t reveal more details about the number of victims in this case, except that it is confirmed to be in the double digits,” Krushevsky said.
Defense lawyer Petar Sekulic said in an email to the Associated Press that Hoyby “absolutely takes these allegations very seriously, but in most cases, especially those involving sexual abuse and violence, does not admit any wrongdoing.”
Members of the Norwegian royal family are well-liked by the public, and this case has made local headlines. The Norwegian royal family has not immediately responded to the Associated Press’ request for comment. The Norwegian news agency NTB quoted a royal spokesman as saying that the case is still under “normal procedures” and the royal family will not comment. Hoyby is no longer living with the crown prince’s family, but remains free awaiting trial and enjoys the presumption of innocence until the court makes a contrary ruling.
Hoyby, nicknamed “Little Marius,” grew up in the public eye and, although he has no royal title or official position, enjoys the same wealth and privileges as his younger sister and brother, who were born to the crown prince and his wife. But his biological father, Morton Borg, was imprisoned for drug and violent crimes and admitted to being addicted to cocaine. According to news reports in November 2024, Hoyby has a long criminal record, including domestic violence against his girlfriend and drug abuse, and he has also revealed that he has mental problems.
