A 26-year-old Brazilian woman, Juliana Marins, recently climbed the 3,726-meter-high Mount Rinjani in Indonesia with seven other tourists, led by two tour guides. As a result, she was left behind because of lack of strength, and then fell off a cliff. Although she survived, she was not rescued immediately because of a fake rescue. By the time she was rescued, she was already dead.
According to the Brazilian newspaper Portal Tucumã, when Marins and her group camped at an altitude of about 1,500 meters, she happily filmed a video with her companions to record the beautiful scenery, but on June 20, she was exhausted and could not walk, so the two tour guides decided to leave her alone at the scene and lead the other seven members to continue moving forward.
One of the guides, Ali Musthofa, said that about 15 to 30 minutes later, he found that Mullins had not tried to keep up with the team, so he turned back to check the situation and found that she had fallen off the cliff while walking on the trail. “I heard her cry for help, and I desperately told her to wait for rescue.” Musthofa pointed out that about 3 and a half hours later, other tourists confirmed Mullins’s location with a drone, “She was still alive, conscious, and struggling to move.”
But the rescue was not carried out immediately. Mullins’ family criticized that the rescue operation was chaotic and negligent. On the second day after Mullins fell off the cliff, her family learned that she had received food, blankets and other items provided by the rescue team, and they were relieved. Unexpectedly, a few hours later, they found that it was a fake photo. “Mullins never received the promised supplies, and she did not receive any emergency treatment during her lifetime.” The family called for a thorough investigation and accountability.
But according to the British “Guardian” report, Mohammad Syafii, head of India’s national search and rescue agency, said that despite the bad weather, rescuers still managed to go down to a depth of 600 meters to find Marins. At that time, she had no signs of life. Three team members further reached her and confirmed that she was dead.
