Yonhap News Agency reported that the independent prosecutor Cho Eun-seok led the independent investigation team investigating the civil strife case of former South Korean President Yoon Seok-yeol, and requested the arrest of Yoon Seok-yeol to the Seoul Central District Court on the 6th. Yoon Seok-yeol was charged with abuse of power, forgery of official documents and obstruction of special duties. These charges are related to his suspected illegal implementation of martial law on December 3 last year.

Yoon Seok-yeol was interrogated by the independent investigation team twice as a suspect in late June and early July, but he denied all the charges and did not explain or apologize to the public for the relevant incidents. The independent investigation team believes that Yoon Seok-yeol still has a strong influence and denies all the charges. If compulsory measures are not taken in time, there may be a risk of collusion, interference with witnesses, and destruction of evidence. Therefore, it is necessary to request detention to ensure the smooth progress of the investigation.

At present, many major suspects in the case have been detained due to the risk of destroying evidence. It is expected that the court will decide within a few days whether to issue an arrest warrant to detain Yoon Seok-yeol.
